CONSTRUCTION 4.0 RANGAHAU IN AOTEAROA

Driving research, collaboration & innovation

Holistic, circular, connected, and grounded in mātauranga Māori – this research reimagines what construction can be.

Ngākopa Construction 4.0 is a multi-year, $10.3 million Endeavour Fund research programme led by HERA, bringing together global experts to transform the sector through data, collaboration, and complexity science.

This training stream explores how Building Information Modelling (BIM) is shaping the future of Aotearoa New Zealand’s construction sector — enabling smarter, more collaborative, and more sustainable outcomes across the built environment.

As a core component of Construction 4.0, BIM integrates data and design to support better decision-making at every stage of the construction lifecycle.

Designing with intent – this HERA-led research is funded through the heavy engineering research levy and BRANZ’s Building Research Levy.

With a focus on decision support tools, embodied carbon data, and life cycle thinking, it empowers engineers and designers to embed low-carbon strategies in the early stages of a project.
