BIM for Construction 4.0

This training stream explores how Building Information Modelling (BIM) is shaping the future of Aotearoa New Zealand’s construction sector — enabling smarter, more collaborative, and more sustainable outcomes across the built environment.

As a core component of Construction 4.0, BIM integrates data and design to support better decision-making at every stage of the construction lifecycle. Through Ngākopa, we’re curating a growing library of practical tools, training modules, and research that highlight BIM’s role in key innovation areas.

These include:

  • Circular design and low-carbon construction
  • Smart construction, automation, and robotics
  • Performance optimisation using digital twins
  • AI-supported modelling and decision systems

The platform features global training content from leaders such as The B1M, as well as New Zealand-based research and development led by our project partners — including tools and resources from Parsa Yazdi (University of Waikato), Professor Robert Amor (University of Auckland), and Dr Yang Zou (University of Auckland).

This training stream forms part of HERA’s commitment to connected digital systems that uplift performance and unlock new ways of working across the sector.
